and Betty are originally From the Four Corners area.
Attended school and graduated from Rehoboth High
School, 1980, attend Dordt College, Sioux Center, IA
and University Of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM
Graduated with Associates of Arts, San Juan College
2004
Started professional art career in 1982, Participated
in the Santa Fe Indian Market and Gallup Intertribal
Ceremonials since 1982.
Taught Art at Navajo Academy located in Farmington,
NM in 1985 and 1986
Started A-M Painting and Graphics in 1987, New Mexico
licensed painting contractor
Painted over 2000 buildings and homes on and off the
Navajo reservation
In
1999 opened Emerson Gallery, featuring Anthony Chee
Emerson Paintings, Betty Begay Emerson Folk art and
Friends of Anthony Chee Emerson.
Anthony Chee Emerson Illustrator of four Children’s
Books, “How the Rattlesnake Got its Rattle”, “Songs of
Shiprock Fair”, “First Fire” and “My Horse”. In 2002
illustrated for John Hopkins's University Native
American Health Studies for Teenage Depression Series.
Featured in “Dine a History of the Navajo” by Dr.
Peter Iverson, regent Professor of History at Arizona
State University

Magazine and in an editorial in October 01 issue of
Southwest Art. The Santa Fean article named the
Emerson Gallery as one of this Nations Ten Native Art
Enclaves

went to libraries statewide. Commission the Poster
for the 2000 Totah Festival in Farmington, NM. 1996

Albuquerque, NM. Commission the Poster for the

Served
on the Board for Northwest New Mexico Arts Council and
the Navajo Arts and Crafts. He had served on the
State of New Mexico Art in Public Places Board.
Currently serves on the Farmington Library foundation
board.
He
participated in Artist in Residency in Lawrence,
Kansas and the Muckenthaler Museum in Fullerton
California.
Help
promote and assist at the Navajo Folk Art Festival
with the Heard Museum North at El Pedegrel mall
February 2002 and 2003.
Participates with the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe,
NM. “Morning with the Artist” 1999 – 2002.
